Abstract: |
John Moore Heritage Services carried out a watching brief at the church of Holy Trinity, Cookham, Berkshire (NGR SU 89705 85513) during the replacement of floors in the north and south chapels. Cookham is recognised as the location of a coenobium from the 8th century. The oldest part of the building recognised previously was that of the Norman nave, no earlier phases could be demonstrated. The features uncovered by the removal of the Victorian floor included foundation and floor supports and burial vaults for the period from the 17th to 19th centuries. |
