Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was carried out at the Jacobean Barn, Bexley during the excavation of two pits for the examination of the footings of the existent building and the installation of structural supports. The watching brief, commissioned by Mitchells and Butler Plc, was undertaken by Pre-Construct Archaeology Limited between 16th and 20th of August 2010. The investigations found evidence of early to mid post-medieval soils, metalled and chalk surfaces, and made ground, followed by layers of later post medieval made ground, plus also the construction cut for the existent barn building, late post-medieval structural features, and modern service trenches and associated backfills. No archaeological features or natural deposits pre-dating the post-medieval period were observed, nor were any natural deposits. |
