Abstract: |
One trench was opened during the evaluation, situated in a grassed garden area. Laminated natural sand, riverine in origin, was found at the base of the sequence. This was sealed by a thick layer of redeposited natural clayey silt, presumably laid down during landscaping work on the Palace grounds. A red and yellow fabric post-medieval brick drain partially truncated the redeposited natural deposit. Layers of subsoil, topsoil and grass completed the sequenced across the entire trench. |
