Abstract: |
The results of archaeological monitoring of groundworks for a residential home on a plot of land situated between Nos. 3 to 7 St Leonard's Terrace, Norwich. The site is situated close to the former site of St Leonards Priory (NHER 359) and the Chapel of St Michael (NHER 400). A decorated 19th century armorial style clay tobacco pipe bowl bearing a Prince of Wales feathers motif was collected from the site. No finds or features relating to earlier occupation of the site were discovered and although traces of a very thin soil were observed above the natural sand it is of likely late post-medieval date. In general it appears that the site was heavily landscaped/terraced in the 19th century with further modifications following demolition of the cottage. |
