Abstract: |
An evaluation comprising of 72 trenches covering 7600m² was carried out in advance of development. A prehistoric burial in a stone-lined pit was recorded as were elements of an early 19thC army barracks. Evidence for extensive but cartographically unrecorded quarrying/mining was revealed. The site was extensively scanned by metal-detector before and during the evaluation as it lies close to the Battle of Pinkie (1547). |
