Abstract:		 An historic building recording and an archaeological watching brief was carried out on land to the rear of 1-2 High Street, Ilfracombe, Devon. The building recording has established the presence of a former small domestic stable, which would have been attached to a large town house. The watching brief identified the presence of deep (in excess of 2m) 20th century made ground and beneath this was a former boundary wall and stone-capped drain, both of probable 19th century date.
