Abstract: |
In December 2015 and March 2016 Archaeological Solutions (AS) carried out an archaeological evaluation at land adjacent to the A2, Faversham, Kent (NGR TQ 9988 6109). The evaluation was commissioned by Shepherd Neame Ltd. It is proposed to submit a planning application for development of the site. No design scheme has been finalised but it may potentially comprise a residential/mixed use development. The evaluation revealed remains of a Roman road crossing the site, orientated north-east to south-west, and the remains of another road parallel to Watling Street. It also revealed a Roman inhumation burial, two possible inhumations, two cremations and Roman features, principally ditches. The extent of the 1920s archaeological excavation was verified. Unusually Trench 13 contained a pit, F2018, which contained medieval (mid 13th - late 14th century) pottery |
