SU 788431 etc. Field survey, documentary and air photographic research combine to produce a background for future excavation of a kiln site. Two centres, Frithend and Bentley, are discussed in relation to natural resources and communications, history of region, and fabrics produced. They made closely similar fabrics and styles of cooking pots, but the Bentley potter also made white ware pitchers. Documents date production to 13th-early 14th centuries.

TQ 423526 etc. Past work is summarised and a fresh approach based on zone-groups adopted. Statistical discussion of the wares leads to the conclusion that the various sites produced fairly uniform styles over 150 years. Further work should concentrate on texture, rim forms, handles and decoration, with analyses of source clays and fired clays. Figures show 100 pots.
