A medieval building in Parliament Square, Westminster
Christopher Thomas
286 - 292
Two trial trenches were excavated in advance of the Jubilee Line extension. Both revealed deeply stratified deposits; those in Parliament Square dated from the Iron Age to the eighteenth century, and those in Parliament Street from the Roman period to the eighteenth century. This article discusses only one aspect of the excavations: a thirteenth-century stone building found in the trench in Parliament Square. The building falls within the Abbey precinct on the northern edge and both phases of construction are well evidenced. There is also a possible connection to documentary evidence for ownership and function.

Sue Hurman
293 - 297
This report summarises the results of the first phase of a recording programme from the Institute of Archaeology. It demonstrates the two phases of construction, probably related to the change of use of the roof space from herb garret to surgical operating theatre.

3-11 High Street, Croydon: the investigation of a late medieval to early 17th century urban site
Geoff Potter
299 - 304
A single trench yielded late and early post-medieval finds, including a good range of sixteenth-century pottery, supplemented by environmental evidence. Contemporary features included two large pits, probably resulting from gravel extraction, and two sections of mortared flint wall. Pottery sherds of the twelfth to fourteenth century were recovered as residual in a possible cultivated soil horizon, as were one sherd of Roman pottery and pieces of burnt and struck flint.
