The article describes the results of a geophysical survey carried out in three phases between 1999 and 2001 in the area to the south and east of the presumed location of the Roman fort at Castlesteads.

Report of an archaeological evaluation of salmon coops in the River Eden at Corby Castle near Carlisle. The evaluation was undertaken following flood damage in 2005 and comprised documentary research, an annotated survey, and a field evaluation. Documentary evidence indicated that the area had been used for fishing since at least the medieval period, but the field evaluation suggested that the eyots associated with the coops were built as a form of river management in the seventeenth or eighteenth centuries, prior to construction of the coops.

The paper presents a history of the Windermere gasworks, built in 1862--3 on the site of the former Undermillbeck workhouse and used to produce coal-gas until its gradual decline during the 1960s and 70s with the increasing use of natural gas. The author outlines the process of making coal-gas and technological changes during the 1930s; presents a reconstruction of the main elements of Windermere gasworks before 1911; describes the history and some of the occupants of the six cottages built to house gasworks employees and their families; and gives an account of events following nationalisation in 1948 up until the redevelopment of the site around the start of the twenty-first century. The paper presents an account of the history of the gasworks built by the Furness Railway Company in the late-nineteenth century to provide coal-gas to the village of Seascale, and later run by the Seascale Gas Company until nationalisation in 1948. Description of the upper stone of a beehive quern made of red sandstone, found in the course of a watching brief at a site in Papcastle to the south of that of the Roman fort, and dated by associated finds of Roman pottery to the late-first or second century AD.

The author presents new information relating to an Anglo-Saxon burial urn in the Senhouse Museum, and formerly in the collections at Netherhall. The documentary evidence gives a precise provenance for the pot, indicating that it was found in 1756 in a tumulus known as Deuil Cross near Boroughbridge in Yorkshire.
