Abstract: |
As part of the larger programme of archaeological investigation along the route of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link, a field evaluation was undertaken to investigate two scatters of flint. Two pits of certain Bronze Age date were identified along with a possible post hole. A number of shallow gullies, interpreted as field boundaries were possibly Bronze Age, but may well have been Saxon, based on the ceramic evidence recovered. Two probable quarries of post-medieval date were identified, they contained earlier residual material. The overall results of the evaluation indicated a low level of Bronze Age activity, possibly associated with more intensive activity which may have existed to the west of the evaluation area.
