Abstract:		 An archaeological evaluation (five trial-trenches) was carried out on land opposite the Saracens Head public house, Sudbury Road, Newton, Suffolk in advance of the construction of eight new dwellings and associated infrastructure. The development site is located among a number of 16th-18th century listed buildings with a Roman road to the west, and a medieval church and post-medieval mill nearby. The evaluation revealed a medieval ditch (11th-12th century) aligned northeast to southwest running across the southeastern end of the site, three modern pits and a modern tree-throw.
