Abstract: |
Targeted excavation (strip, map, record) phase of the project, following the DBA (C1/DBA/15/PCW) and geophysical survey and field evaluation (C1/EVA/15/WCW). The DBA and geophysical survey identified a number of archaeological features in the centre of the Site, and these were identified as a compacted rubble surface (with medieval pottery identified in the fill) and silt-filled linear features during the evaluation trenching. A targeted excavation will now look to investigate the extent and purpose of the rubble surface and surrounding features. The excavation represents a programme of post-determination archaeological works that was granted in full for the construction of a car park and storage area. |
