Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology in December 2013 on land west of Cirencester, Gloucestershire. Fifty trenches were excavated. A ditch was identified in Trench 30, the upper fill of which contained Middle Iron Age pottery. The ditch appears to relate to an enclosure depicted on a preceding geophysical survey and may have one had a bank on its south-western edge, inside the enclosure, which has since slumped into the ditch. Several ditches thought to relate to a post-medieval field system, track way and enclosure were also identified. An area of postmedieval quarrying in the northern part of the site was also identified. Ploughed out furrows were identified in in the east of the site. |
