Abstract: |
Oxford Archaeology was commissioned to conduct an archaeological trench evaluation at 8-14 Longwall Street, Bodicote House and the Sacher Building, which are adjoining properties along the west side of Longwall Street, within the precincts of New College, Oxford. The project was designed to inform two separate development proposals, comprising an extension to the Grade 2 listed Sacher Building, and renovation and remodelling of a row of Grade 2 listed buildings at 8-14 Longwall Street, including rebuilding of the unlisted Bodicote House. A well-preserved section of Oxford's medieval inner city wall forms the western boundary of the site. The evaluation was particularly designed to investigate the line of the medieval city defences. |
