Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out at the construction site of flood defences in the vicinity of Dovers medieval moated manor. The northern section of the moat formerly occupied part of the site. The moat had been backfilled in the late 19th or early 20th century; some of this backfill may have been located during the watching brief. Foundations were recorded which may have been those of Great Dovers House, demolished in 1849. A second set of foundations discovered near the moat could not be dated. Medieval and post-medieval tile and pottery and fragments of animal bone were recovered. [AIP] |
