Abstract:
A watching brief was underaken during the excavation of boreholes at the proposed site of a warehouse development, within an Archaeological Priority Zone. The site lay opposite medieval Barking Abbey, a Scheduled Ancient Monument; a previous evaluation had revealed significant 9th-13th century remains. During the watching brief, medieval waterfront dumps, post-medieval levelling dumps and modern foundations were recorded. A single potsherd, probably of 18th century date, was recovered. [AIP]
