Abstract:		 The assessment comprised documentary searches and a photographic survey to gather and assess all available information of archaeological and historical significance on, and in proximity to, the area of Newport Arch, prior to application for Scheduled Monument Consent for conservation works. The assessment concluded that more complete records be made of the structures before conservation work, and put forward mitigation strategies, particularly concerning the bastion which was in a bad state of repair and a possible danger to the public.
