Abstract: |
A Roman rectilinear enclosure revealed during an evaluation was investigated further by a subsequent excavation. Over 200 sherds of pottery dating from the 2nd-early 4th centuries were found, and three shallow gullies were recorded which may have related to the initial phase of enclosure activity. Post-medieval post holes, pottery and glass were observed, and one post-medieval feature contained two articulated sheep skeletons. The nature of the Roman pottery indicated that the site had not been of high status, but that a certain level of trading contact had occurred. [AIP] |
