Abstract: |
Twelve trenches measuring 50m long were excavated on the site, targeted on areas of potential archaeological interest identified by the geophysical survey. Seven of the trenches were devoid of archaeological features. The remaining trenches identified a number of ditched features, probable enclosures and former pits in this area. Finds recovered from some of the features indicated a mixture of Roman and medieval dates for this activity, although several of the features produced no dateable material and their origins remains uncertain. A further assemblage of redeposited artefacts was also recovered from subsoil deposits across the site, comprising sherds of Roman, medieval and early post-medieval pottery, along with a single likely late prehistoric flint. |
