Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was carried out at the Colchester County High School for Girls, Norman Way, Colchester in advance of the construction of a single-storey extension. Previous archaeological investigations in and around CCHS have revealed widespread Roman activity including a fort, triple-dyke, palisade trenches and a wattle-and-daub structure, and burials. A single trial-trench excavated across the footprint of the new building revealed a Roman ditch (F4) aligned north-east to south-west. It was recorded along with five modern and two natural features. No trace of the triple-dyke was identified even though it was projected to run through the evaluation trench. |
