On the importance of fourteenth century planning in the construction of the churches of Cheshire
Frederick H Crossley
5 - 52
Discusses the building of churches in Cheshire in the 14th century, against a historical background. Despite a general remodelling of churches in the county in the late 15th and early 16th centuries, numerous details from the earlier period have survived and original 14th century floor plans can be detected. Features such as window tracery, buttresses, piscinas, founders' tomb arches, tomb recesses and carved decoration are discussed with examples. A number of individual churches are then described in more detail. LD
