Abstract: |
Transport for London (TfL) has been tasked with implementing the Cycle Hire Scheme within central London by summer 2010. Approximately 10, 200 docking points at around 400 sites at a density of approximately nine sites per square kilometre are required. A generic Written Scheme of Investigation was written for all sites requiring further archaeological investigation. As a result of a planning condition docking station 09/610904 was deemed to need further archaeological investigation. This investigation consisted of an archaeological watching brief during all goundworks for the docking station. No archaeological features were observed, natural geology was not reached. 19th Century / early 20th Century dumped deposit containing frequent fragments of ceramic building material was present beneath the road foundations down to formation level. |
