Abstract: |
An archaeological trench evaluation was carried out prior to development on a former retail site. The archaeological programme of works consisted of the observation and recording of nine geotechnical pits and the excavation of four evaluation trenches. The results of these works indicated the presence of two wide, but shallow north-south aligned palaeo-channels. The channels were filled with organic rich alluvial clays, but were undated. The investigation also aimed to establish the presence or absence of any Romano-British features, particularly a road; no features or deposits of this date were however observed. |
