Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was carried out at land off of Stockton Road, Sedgefield. A total of seven trenches were excavated to investigate geophysical anomalies highlighted by a magnetometry survey. This scheme of trenching provided a 1% sample of the site. With the exception of a small number of possible plough furrows, only one trench was found to contain archaeological activity. This comprised a shallow medieval ditch cut aligned east-west, possibly cut to enclose an area of high ground. All other geophysical anomalies proved to relate to variations in geology. |
