Abstract: |
A detailed gradiometry survey was conducted over approximately 24.5haof sports pitches located in Ealing, West London. The data collected has identified several positive linear responses associated with former cut features, which may be of archaeological interest, however a different origin should not be discounted. Modern activity on the site is evident through a complex arrangement of land drains and two modern services crossing the site. Also noted are a number of responses associated with the sports equipment present within the survey area. The magnetic 'spikes' indicative of ferrous materials have been interrogated in greater depth to assess if they are potentially associated with unexploded ordnance. These responses have been categorised into three groups, those likely to be associated with ferrous debris generally too small or weak in amplitude to be associated with UXO's, those which can be attributed to sports posts present on site and finally those which may be associated with UXO. These responses have been identified as large ferrous objects however due to the limitations of the methodology, no further information can be provided regarding size, depth or possible cause. |
