Abstract: |
In April 2015, an archaeological evaluation was undertaken at the Old Green Man, Watling Street, Little Brickhill, Buckinghamshire in advance of the existing property being converted to three residential dwellings and the erection of two further ones to the land at the rear. The site is located to the rear of an 18th century public house in the centre of the village. Despite its proximity to the Roman road of Watling Street and the Roman settlement of Magiovinium as well as being in the core of the medieval settlement, the evaluation revealed only post-medieval remains comprising a post-medieval well, a 20th century pit and a possible base for play equipment. Whilst this may suggest that there is a low potential for surviving pre-medieval archaeological remains in the development area, there is a high possibility that the development may impact on below ground heritage assets of at least post-medieval date. |
