Abstract: |
A watching brief was undertaken on behalf of Central Networks at Abberton, Worcestershire (NGR SO 993534; WSM 34768) during the upgrading of the Feckenham to Evesham 66Kv line replacement scheme. No archaeological deposits were identified during the ground works and only occasional pottery remains were collected from the plough soil within a 10m radius surrounding each electricity pole. These were of late medieval to modern date and were probably introduced through the manuring of agricultural fields. No material culture was recovered that may indicate the date or nature of the crop marks identified in the area, through which the overhead cables ran. However the lack of pottery specifically from around pole 9 may indicate that the rectangular crop mark in which it stood is of prehistoric rather than Roman date. |
