Abstract: |
Archaeology South-East was commissioned by CgMs Consulting on behalf of their client Bellway Homes to undertake an archaeological evaluation in advance of residential development of a site at the former Dunningford School, Dunningford Close, Upper Rainham Road, South Hornchurch. Twenty three trenches were excavated across the site. Although the site had been subject to significant modern disturbance and truncation, a single fragment of Middle Bronze Age pottery was recovered from a north-west to south-east orientated linear. A second, undated linear running in a parallel alignment was identified approx 20m to the north. Three fragments of LIA/ Roman pottery were also recovered, but derived from diffuse and ephemeral features and the sherds, which show signs of abrasion, could be residual. Two small undated pits were also identified. |
