Abstract:
This report has been carried out by WYG on behalf of the University of Liverpool to inform the re-development of Mulberry Court. The proposed development includes the demolition of the existing accommodation blocks and the retention of 126 Mount Pleasant. The new development will include the construction of new accommodation focussed around a central garden. Although detailed impact assessment is not possible due to the absent of detailed design proposals, the following constraints have been identified. The western extent of the study area lies within the buffer zone of the World Heritage Site. The WHS itself is sufficiently distant that the setting will not be affected by the proposed development. The site lies partially within the Mount Pleasant Conservation Area however due to the nature of proposed works, it is anticipated that the development will benefit the Conservation Area as the high quality design will preserve and enhance the character of the Conservation Area. These proposals will similarly enhance the setting and views from Listed Buildings in the vicinity of the development. There is limited potential for previously recorded remains. Prior to development the site formed part of the marginal land as part of the mosslands and the site is anticipated to have been truncated by the construction of 19th Century housing.
