Abstract: |
Allen Archaeology Limited was commissioned by Amesview Development Limited to undertake an archaeological evaluation by trial trenching on land on 18-26 West Street, St Ives, Cambridgeshire, in support of a planning application for proposed residential development. The development site lies within the historic core of St Ives, near the northern perimeter of the late Saxon and medieval town and east of the parish church of St Ives. The trenching strategy comprised two trenches measuring 10m long by 1.6m wide. The trenches exposed a number of refuse deposits of post-medieval to modern date within large quarry pits. Overall, the site has a negligible archaeological potential due to the quarrying |
