Abstract: |
The project is an investigation of the potential for archaeological remains on land at 36-40 London Road and 2 Latimer Road in Headington, Oxford (NGR SP 5417 0683). The potential for Prehistoric and Roman activity on the site is considered to be relatively low, with few sites in the surrounding area. The potential for early medieval and medieval activity in the area is also considered to be low or insignificant. The area may have been woodland and treated as part of the waste associated with Headington or could potentially have been part of an agricultural regime. A house called the Brambles and gardens is known to have been developed on the site in the latter part of the 19thcentury. There are no scheduled monuments located in the search area, and thus there is no physical or visual impact. The development will have no physical impact on the Central Oxford Conservation Area, and its internationally important group of buildings. |
