Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology in January 2017 at Alford Close, Sandhurst. Twenty seven trenches were excavated. The evaluation did not find any evidence within the natural alluvium (Holocene) for any features pre-dating the medieval period. Furthermore, of human groups present before the deposition of the alluvium, the braid plain (Pleistocene), would have been an unattractive landscape for occupation, and the potential for evidence of activity would be low. Archaeology was sparse and consisted of a number of ditches following a mostly parallel or perpendicular alignment with extant boundary and drainage ditches and shallow pits with evidence for burning. |
