Abstract: |
John Moore Heritage Services carried out an archaeological watching brief at Wolvercote Primary School, First Turn, Wolvercote, Oxfordshire (NGR SP49750977). Groundwork consisted of ground reduction ahead of piling mat construction and landscaping associated with the proposed extension, in addition to a topsoil strip associated with the construction of a multi-use games area (MU-GA).During the works a series of linear enclosure ditches were recorded; two phases of activity were shown. The first was represented by two ditches of probable later. Bronze Age of early Iron Age date which formed the north eastern corner of a regular sided enclosure. The second phase of activity was represented by a linear ditch, dated to the mid-1st century. |
