Abstract:		 Border Archaeology Ltd (BAL) has been instructed by Russell Pryce, Planning Manager, Collins Design and Build to carry out a programme of Archaeological Observation for the construction of 27 dwellings, to include nine affordable homes, new access, sustainable drainage and landscape works on Land W of Patrick Orchard Canon Pyon Herefordshire HF4 8NY (NGR: SO 46214 48912) (Planning Ref. P141917/F). The proposed development occupies a roadside location on the alignment of the former Roman road (Watling Street - West) linking the area around the small Roman town of Kenchester (Magna) with the Roman settlement of Leintwardine (Bravinium) to the north. Whilst no Roman remains were revealed, the northwest part of the site, close to the Wellington Brook, contained evidence of later 12th-13th century activity (Plot 22).
