Abstract: |
In November 2012, an archaeological evaluation was undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology at the Former ATS Site, 22 Brook Street, St Neots, Cambridgeshire. Two trenches were excavated. The deepest and earliest deposit encountered in both trenches was a black slit-clay containing post-medieval material dating to the second half of the 18th century. Material pre-dating the 18th century was limited to one sherd of cistercian were dating to the 16th century. A complex sequence of deposits, including make-up layers, walls, floors and drains was recorded above the black slit clay deposits in both trenches. These deposits were related to the later occupation of a row of cottages that fronted Church Street or industrial use of the site as an iron works and malt extract works. |
