Abstract: |
Herefordshire Archaeology undertook a woodland survey on behalf of the Foresty Commision. A rapid walk over survey was carried out in the wood concerned. A hand held Global Positioning System was used to record the location of features encountered. Structures were recorded within the wood includes a Medieval field system that has been overlain by Post-Medieval enclosed fields. It also includes evidence of industrial activity in the form of quarrying and it's associated holloways, but there was limited evidence of woodland management. What was clarified was that earthworks previously thought to relate to an Iron Age hillfort and a Saxon dyke were shown to be the result of different processes. |
