Abstract: |
The archaeological monitoring of a foundation excavation for a building replacing the demolished Cowshed revealed that there had been significant truncation of underlying natural clay deposits probably caused by terracing and construction works in the first half of the 20th century. This assertion was supported by the presence of modern made ground deposits directly overlying the natural clay. No archaeological features or deposits were encountered during the archaeological investigation. |
