Abstract: |
An eight trench archaeological evaluation was conducted within Wimbledon Greyhound stadium and its associated car park. These trenches revealed a natural geology of clay overlain by sand and gravels. Several layers of alluvium were seen across the site, confirming the belief that this was a waterlogged area,. A possible paleochannel was seen towards the south, sealed between two layers of alluvium, whilst the remaining archaeological features were post-medieval, a number of domestic cut features truncated the alluvial layers to the northeast of the site, and an agricultural ditch system to the northwest and central part of the site. |
