Abstract: |
Desk based assessment to support a planning application for a mixed use development at Marsh Farm, Luton. It included a search of the historic environment record, site walkover and analysis of other documentary evidence including historic maps. The report identified no recorded heritage sites within the development site but identified the potential for previously unrecorded remains. Potential setting issues were also identified with regard to the Scheduled Ancient Monument 'Waulaud's Bank'. However, it was considered that the existing landscaping provided sufficient screening between the development and the heritage asset. Following consultation with the County Archaeologist it was decided that due to the density of sites in within the study area, that it would be necessary to disprove the presence of any previously unrecorded remains. It was therefore recommended that a scheme of field evaluation should be devised to ascertain the nature and extent of any remains present. |
