Abstract: |
In January and February 2018 ADAS carried out an emergency archaeological watching brief for Kier Integrated Services and Clancy Docwra (KCD) of groundworks for the repair of a leak to a water main located under Broad Street near the junction with Parks Road adjacent to the Weston Library and the Clarendon Building (NGR: SP 51544 06503). A single trench (Trench 1) was excavated. Although Trench 1 was located in the historic core of Oxford the groundworks for the water main repair impacted only modern made ground. There was no visual evidence that the water leak had created any deeper voids or voids that extended beyond those which were removed within Trench 1. The staff from the Weston Library and the Clarendon Building reported no evidence of water seeping into the cellars of these buildings or into the tunnel under Broad Street which links these two buildings. |
