Abstract: |
Detailed magnetometry was carried out by Archaeological Surveys Ltd, within an area of land to the south of Castle Street on the south-western edge of Mere in south-west Wiltshire. The results indicate the presence of a linear anomaly that correlates with a former mapped boundary feature also partly visible as an extant linear bank. A broad, curvilinear anomaly of uncertain origin appears to have been possibly truncated by the boundary; however, it appears to define a low rise in the field and a natural origin should be considered. Other linear and discrete anomalies could not be confidently interpreted due their fragmented nature and lack of definable morphology. |
