Abstract: |
In September 2002, English Heritage carried out survey and analysis of earthworks in two areas of the post-medieval gardens at Cobham Hall in Kent. The earthwork and structural remains in both Lady Darnley's Garden and the South Pleasure Grounds, combined with the excellent historical maps and accounts for Cobham Hall and Park, made it possible to document, in some detail, the development of these gardens through the post-medieval period. Whilst as entities both gardens date largely from the 1790s onwards, it is now clear that several features pre-date the Hall and the park. (This was report 2/2003 in a previous series) |
