Abstract:
In December 2014 and August 2017 Archaeological Solutions Ltd (AS) conducted two phases of archaeological trial trench evaluation at Areas 1 and 2, Land East of Moreton Hall, Suffolk (NGR TL 8855 6430; Figs. 1 - 2). A geophysical survey has been carried out on Areas 2 and 3 of the proposed development (Stratascan 2014) and anomalies of potential archaeological interest were recorded within Area 2, which were thought to be associated with the edge of the medieval Catshall Green. During the evaluation, features recorded in area 1 included an oven and ditches containing medieval pottery (12-14th C), some of which correlate with the former green edge. In area 2, further ditches associated with the eastern green edge were recorded, with medieval (12-14th C) pottery again yielded by some of the ditches. A gully containing late Saxon pottery was also identified. A number of undated and modern features were also recorded.
