Abstract: |
Between October and November 2017 MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology) carried out an archaeological trial trench evaluation at East Midlands Airport car park, Castle Donington, Leicestershire prior to construction of proposed automated parcel sortation facility. Fifty-three trenches were excavated and three of these trenches contained undated archaeological features. The evaluation also identified a series of post-medieval furrows and the location of a former Finger Farm remains along with adjacent to it a field boundary ditch depicted on 19th-century Ordnance Survey (OD) maps. Three out of 17 excavated furrows contained dateable evidence: four pottery sherds which date to the 17th/18th century and a 18th/19th-century horseshoe. |
