Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology in October 2018 on Land South of Fairclough Farm, Newell Green, Warfield, Berkshire. Fifteen trenches were excavated. The evaluation identified a cluster of Early Roman features, primarily focussed around Trenches 7 and 15. The features are primarily ditches along with a single beehive shaped pit, indicating a series of minor enclosures or fields with nearby settlement. The large, unabraded nature of the pottery sherds recovered from these features, most notably those recovered from ditch 704, make it highly likely that there is settlement activity occurring within the immediate vicinity. |
