Abstract:
University of Leicester Archaeological Services (ULAS) carried out an archaeological evaluation for the Enderby Relief Road, Enderby, Leicestershire on behalf of Mather Jamie Ltd. Sixteen trenches, totalling 671.55m², a 3% sample of the site, were excavated to evaluate a pasture field and a small area of arable farm land. The archaeological work was carried out from the 17th-23rd of April 2018, in accordance to National Planning Policy Framework in advance of a new relief road at land to the east of Warren Farm and north of Leicester Lane, Enderby, Leicestershire The archaeological evaluation recorded features in four of the trenches consisting of gullies, ditches and a pit. The pottery recovered in this phase indicates a chronological range from 1st-2nd century. This together with the data from the Historic environment record suggests that there is a settlement core within this area, or within very close proximity. The site archive will be held by Leicestershire Museums under the Accession Number XA112.2011.
