Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology in April and May 2016 on land at Millfields, Cam, Gloucestershire. A total of forty five trenches were excavated. Archaeological asset survival was biased towards the eastern extent of the site, which reflected the results of the preceding geophysical survey. The northern half of the site, particularly against the flood plain of the River Cam, was noted to be characterised by a series of rectilinear enclosures and linear boundaries. The majority were dated to the late Iron Age to Roman period. The level of artefact recovery suggested a moderate level of post deposition disturbance, consistent with agricultural activity. The southern half of the site contained comparatively fewer archaeological assets, including two features of possible Iron Age date which contained burnt bone. |
