Abstract:
English Heritage has undertaken to produce a full account of the documentary and architectural evidence for the significance of the screen, and to provide an assessment of its historic fabric.5 In addition - given that a summary account of the development of the monastery complex is of necessity required to provide essential context - an updated architectural history of the abbey has been compiled as an adjunct to the principal exercise.6 The findings are presented in this report.
