Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken around a curvilinear section of drystone wall forming part of a possible sheepfold or earlier enclosure system on the south west side of the Beam Hill at Crawfordjohn. The wall did not extend beyond the extent visible before topsoil was removed and no associated internal features were unearthed, the wall is likely to have been built as a sheep stell. A small quarry pit was also recorded along the course of the borrow pit and a series of small irregular shallow quarry pits were located to the north west of the sheep stell. |
